ABOUT
Now celebrating it's 9th season, the Heartland Community Flute Choir (HCFC) was founded in 2003 by UNO Professor of Flute, Dr. Christine Beard. A non-auditioned ensemble boasting over 40 adult and student members from Nebraska and western Iowa, the HCFC plays on C flutes, piccolos, alto and bass flutes, and performs a variety of literature consisting of original works for flute choir and arrangements of classical masterpieces, as well as traditional and popular tunes.
Since its inception, the HCFC has captivated audiences across the state with its enchanting sonorities and diverse repertoire which has included four world premiere performances of new arrangements and new commissions for flute choir, including a 25-minute suite of Ozark folk tunes by Nebraska composer, Kenton Bales. In addition to giving an average of four local concerts in and around Omaha each year, the HCFC was selected to perform at the 2009 International Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL; 2008 National Flute Association Convention held in Kansas City, MO; the 2008 BEMIS Creativity Festival in Omaha; the 2006 North Central Division MENC Conference; the 2006 ARTSaha! festival in Omaha; and the 2004 and 2009 Nebraska Music Educators Association Convention. In 2011 the HCFC embarked on a European tour to The Netherlands, Belgium and France, and they will begin recording for the HCFC's 10th anniversary CD in 2012-2013.
The HCFC is available to perform at for a variety of social, professional, educational, and private events, and the size of the ensemble can be customized to fit your needs. Monetary donations help the ensemble purchase music, instruments, and equipment; help with travel expenses for concert tours; and/or to commission new music for flute choir from living composers.
Rehearsals will take place 6:00-7:30pm on Tuesday evenings in the Strauss Performing Arts Center (PAC 109) on the UNO campus. Membership is open to adult amateur and professional flutists, as well as college and high school students (No beginners please!). College credit is available through UNO. No audition is required and new members are welcome at any time! Annual membership dues are $20 which includes an official HCFC polo shirt.
